I Turned My Heat On! LOL

It got little chilly upon here last night. I hope you all enjoyed the holiday weekend. And for those of you that went shopping on Black Friday and yesterday, I hope it was worth it - LOL.

It looks to be a busy week. My assistants will be back Monday through Wednesday which is good. I have a manicure and haircut scheduled and I need to pack for NYC. Also, my new machine-thing is suppose to arrive this week as well. It is suppose to massage is my legs/veins to help the blood flow so I will not have kankles.

Just when I think MS cannot occupy any more of my time/life, it sucks up another hour each day. Luckily, I can do them both at the same time. I think I’ll shoot for the Price is Right hour - no better time.

Tomorrow night, me and cohosts are working on our podcast - fine-tuning episode one and getting ready to record when we get back from the holiday. I am looking forward to that.

Thursday is the day - it is finally time to go to New York City. The lights, the shows, Broadway, Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree, Times Square, The Plaza decorated for the holidays - and if I happen to end up in the Champagne Room drinking an over-priced, pretentious, ice-cold, dirty martini, then so be it. (And Anna Hosemann-Butler, I’ll raise a glass to you).

It will be a great trip because I am going with my besties and I am going to get to hang out with my Carolina Girl (Adrienne Mckeown) and on Thursday night, I will be hanging out with 4-time Tony nominee and the singing voice of Disney’s Pocahontas, Broadway Royalty…Judy Kuhn. We have met several times before, spoken on the phone a few times and even had a 30-minute meeting on Zoom. So obviously, we will cement our “Bestie Friendship” this time. LOL

I am not going to take my laptop but I will make a few posts from my phone and post pics upon my return.

Good Morning, Possums and Happy (Black) Friday and Happy Weekend.  I hope everyone enjoyed a day of fun, fellowship, and football.  I understand that the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was entertaining as well (I didn’t watch it).  I didn’t watch football either, however, I did see Ms. Dolly Rock a modified Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader outfit and she was FABULOUS!

Thanksgiving Eve (Wednesday evening), I attended a performance of the Broadway Touring Production of MJ:  The Michael Jackson Musical.  Let me start by saying that these types of musicals are not my favorite.   I prefer the older shows with the big production numbers and lavish costumes.  The music is not new or original.  Shows like Mama Mia, All Shook Up, MoTown, Head Over Heels - I just didn't care for.  However, other Jukebox musicals like Jersey Boys, Beautiful:  The Carole King Musical, Moulin Rouge and On Your Feet were very good and I thoroughly enjoyed them,

MJ was different (for me).  When I first heard this show was in development, I thought they (the show creators) were crazy - no one is going to see this - the whole Michael Jackson controversy and all.  What’s next, “Coz: The Bill Cosby Musical” or “Jeffrey:  The Fall of Epstein’s Island Paradise”.  They could’t be far behind.

I went in with an open mind;  trying to forget all the negative news and whatnot and I have to say…I was pleasantly surprised.  While it is a Jukebox musical, the songs took me back to college (maybe a little before and “Thriller” - the theme of my first rush party at Pi Kappa Alpha;  the Fraternity I would pledge and join.

It was like a stroll down memory lane.  Most everyone was moving in their seats and cheering when one of the songs started playing. It was good fun.  Sadly, they left out “PYT (Pretty Young Thing) - one of my favorite songs.  I found this to be inexcusable - shockingly, no one consulted me.

But looming overhead was all the controversy and accusations and monetary settlements.  They were mentioned but more or less glossed over and that was problematic for me.  Bubbles the chimp was mentioned more often.  The show focused on MJ’s vision for his final tour.

Regardless, there was life on stage - plenty of it. The dancers, singers and supporting cast were amazing.  But the standout was the actor portraying MJ.  His looks, voice, mannerisms, body language, singing and dancing were nothing short of perfection.  He had MJ and every nuance about MJ down to a science.  He was Michael Jackson.

So, yes, I enjoyed the show.  It was quite entertaining and brought back fun memories from college I had long forgotten, but there still remained that dark, glossed-over cloud that ruined a part of my enjoyment of the show.

I give the show 3.5 possums out of 5.

Good Morning, Possums and Happy Sunday. It’s the first day of a new week. Some people are traveling (God’s speed) others -are taking the week off prepping for the arrival of family for Thanksgiving and others are living for Wednesday hoping they get out of work by 2-ish. I always told my team to leave at noon. Why go to lunch and come back and work for an hour? That never made any sense tome - just go home at noon.

I miss Thanksgiving of 5 (maybe 10) years ago (pre-multiple sclerosis - when I could walk with no assistance). A handful of friends and I would join 30-40,000 of our closest Dallas friends downtown for the Turkey Trot. We would walk (some would run) the 3.1 miles - it took about an hour - talking the entire time. Once we crossed the finish line, we would pick up our medals, walk around the crow of finished participants fora few minute (depending on how cold it was) and make our way back to our cars.

We loaded into the cars; all of wearing our Turkey Trot t-shirts and shiny finisher medals around our necks and headed for part 2 of the morning.

Part 2 consisted of heading to an open local watering hole. It was filled with their regulars; well, maybe not filled but a handful of them. Once we had our cocktails and shot of fireball, we toasted finishing the race and wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. We finished our cocktails and each one of us headed home to get ready for Thanksgiving. Sometimes we were all going to same place - other times, not. But that didn’t matter; not to me anyway. The two or three previous hours I spent walking, talking, chatting - culminating in our annual cocktail and shot with my friends was my Thanksgiving. That’s what I was thankful for. If I couldn’t be with my mom and dad, this was the place for me - the place I was thankful for - with my friends who are family - my besties. But I digress.

Good Morning, Possums and Happy Friday Eve. It’s almost the weekend and it’s one week until Thanksgiving. Can you believe it? I know a great many of my possums will be taking off all of next week and the rest will be biting their nails through Wednesday. Wednesday was always a ‘leave at noon’ day and Friday, we always worked from home. But I guess all that depends on where you work.

I have had two weeks to evaluate my needs/days that I need an assistant. I do not need one five days a week. I think three days a week will do nicely - Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Also, I think a housekeeper every other week will suffice.

This is all adjustable with 24-hours notice should something arise, but I was beginning to feel a little suffocated with so many people coming and going. I cannot really test this new schedule out until January because of Thanksgiving next week, NYC the next and then I go home for the holidays the next - so January it is. Stay tuned…

That Ocrevus (treatment for MS) commercial continues to taunt me and mock me. The people in the commercial flash the peace sign the entire time. My way of coping is to flash them the peace sign right back….well half of the peace sign. I suppose I could change the channel and avoid the commercial entirely. But that would be the mature thing - the adult thing to do - take the high road. Well, my high road is under construction and I don’t feel like adulting. Besides, flashing, no, sharing my half of the peace sign is much more cathartic. LOL

Good Morning, Possums and Happy Tuesday. It feels like it should be Friday, but I don’t want to wish my time or days away. I have too much I want to do.

I need to get my sleep pattern adjusted. Right now, I wake up at 2:30am every single night and it is driving me crazy. Last night (this morning) I was bombarded with prescription drug commercials; in particular, the Ocrevus commercial. For those of you that do not know, Ocrevus is an infusion treatment for people with Multiple Sclerosis taken twice a year.

People are giving the peace sign and turning it around saying they are taking Ocrevus twice a year and they couldn’t be more happy and healthy.

I am beyond happy for these people, God, love’em, I don’t begrudge them a bit of happiness and good health. But at the same time, I would like to pelt them with slime, cold water and, perhaps, little bags of dog poop (that last one is a little harsh so let me give it some more thought).

Why do I feel this way, you ask? Well, I have taken Ocrevus and it didn’t do SQUAT for me - and I have the MRI scans to prove it. So I find that commercial a little offensive. It gives false hope to anyone with MS. It says this may/could/might/will work for you. Nobody with MS hears the may/could/might.

I think, perhaps, I put most of my eggs in the Ocrevus basket. I thought it was going to fix me just like the commercials said…AND I would only have to have the infusion twice a year. How nice that was going to be.

Well, it didn’t fix everything. It didn’t it fix anything. I broke through that DMT (disease modifying therapy). It’s almost like I have SUPER Multiple Sclerosis. It continues to break through all treatments (DMTs). I have even had four rounds of chemotherapy and that only worked to a point.

I’m not mad or angry, I just hate those commercials. It’s just another reminder that there is no cure and not everything works on everybody. And that sucks!

I have broken through four DMTs and I continue to stun, not only not my neurologist, but most of the Neurologists at UT Southwestern. I continue to be on their list of cases to discuss every month - and for the last year, I’ve been number one (my neurologist told me so). While I do not get a trophy or a write up in a national (or international) medical journal for this, I can rest in that fact that I am #1. And for the time being, I can live with that. LOL!

I know - I chased that one down a rabbit hole - but I got out my frustrations and I feel better.

Good Morning, Possums and Happy Monday. It’s time to start a new work week. For some, this week is the only thing standing between you and a week away from the office. For others, you know next week comes with a day or two off work and that alone should be enough to get you through this week. LOL

Today is National No Bra Day. National No Bra Day on October 13th encourages wearers to leave that bra at home.

The day promotes breast cancer awareness. It also helps raise money for research. Many women who have survived breast cancer are unable to go without a bra as they need it to hold their prosthesis after surgery. Additionally, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and No Bra Day should serve as a reminder for all women to be screened for breast cancer. Most types of breast cancer can be treated if caught early.

I’m all for No Bra Day, however, today is also World Kindness Day. The theme for the year 2023 is "Be Kind Wherever Possible”. What kills me is why do we need a day reminding us to be kind? Shouldn’t that be wired into our brains or embedded into our DNA code?

It should, but sadly it is not. Being kind is a choice we make. In every one of my posts I end with,

“Do everything today with kindness in your heart. The world is full of kind people. If you can’t find one, be one! “

I do my best to be kind. I also except kindness shown to me. You can too, It doesn’t cost anything to be kind or perform an act of kindness.

So today (and every day), be kind. Take off your bra and be kind.

Good Morning, Possums and Happy Sunday. Time get ready to start a new week. Are you ready?

The Gala on Friday night was GREAT! We all had a good time and over $600,000 was raised for the Irving Schools Foundation and the money from the silent auction items has not been added yet, so I’l give you an actual total soon.

The money from the Gala goes to fund all of the programs for students/teachers we provide/support - check it out. It’s our biggest fundraiser for the year.

Re-entering society is exhausting. I slept some the day yesterday. I was out until after midnight on Friday night but it was fun and worth it. Thank you, Shannon Brown and Timothy Thomas

I am still figuring out the best way to use my assistants and on what day sneed therm. I have determined that I do not them five days a week. That’s too much. I am thinking about Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Or maybe it changes each week (for this month) until I come back from the holidays and get a set schedule.

I have had to quit watching the news again. Wars, politics -it’s just too depressing. I have started looking for new volunteer opportunities that would begin in January. I have 13 years under my belt at the clinic, but it’s time to move on - I have moved on.

I thought about returning to the Performing Arts Center, so I may do that. I will be looking into some of our programs the Irving Schools Foundation offers. There are many opportunities there as well. Hope to And my Titans - I haven’t been able to help them as much this year, so I hope to get back to them as well.

If you know of any volunteer opportunities, please let me know.

And then, there is our podcast. I am hopeful that it will take off as well. It has been fun putting it together with my cohosts and I am sure it will morph its way into a tight, fun program as we get into a groove. It takes a great deal of time as well.

I think I am anxious to have more structure in joy life. I used to be very structured but MS, and more recently the shingles have tossed all of that out of the window.

So 2024, it’s time to take my life back and get back to me.

Coming to you from the Celebrity Suites of the Wyndemere Condominiums at Turtle Creek. Today is Friday, November 10 and the high temperature is going to be 61 degrees and cloudy.

No birthdays on my calendar today.

Good Morning, Possums and Happy Friday, TGIF and Happy Weekend. The weekend is here. It’s going to be a busy day. As soon as my Friday assistant arrives, I need him to go pick up my prescriptions. After that, I’ll need to get ready for PLEX this afternoon. I saw the bag of plasma they pulled out of me last Friday. It was not very clear. It usually looks like chicken broth - very clear, but mine looked more like cream of chicken. OK, not really that bad, but it’s good I had PLEX. I am counting on this draw looking much better.

Finally, after that, I’ll need to get ready for the Irving Schools Foundation GALA Fundraiser. I am looking forward to it and getting out of my casa as well. I hope this event will mark my return to society after months of being in shingles seclusion.

Good Morning, Possums and Happy Thursday and Happy Friday Eve. Hang on tight. The weekend is almost here.

It may be a lazy day here in the Celebrity Suites. It’s just so gloomy outside; a PERFECT day to catch up on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Nothing will make the day fly by like watching a bunch of uppity, rich white women (and one Asian and one African American) bitch and moan about having to carry their own bags while boarding their private jet for a girl’s trip to Las Vegas. I’m sure, at some point, there will be a fight or two.

Andy Cohen has single handedly set women back 50 years. He himself is the no talent hack (my opinion) responsible for the Real Housewives franchise. And as entertaining as they may be (to me), it’s just trash TV. I highly recommend Salt Lake City and Beverly Hills.

Thank God the writer’s strike and the actor’s strike are both over. Come on people - let’s get back to work and get something decent on TV and at the movies. We are good through the holiday season. Hallmark has us covered with new, emotional and original holiday-themed stories never heard/seen before. Thank you, Hallmark, for your forward thinking.

I’ll give them (Hallmark) this - they have stepped up their game with non-traditional families, blended families, African-American & Hispanic & Jewish families, LGBTQC:$/enough_letters families. However, the story remains the same. But I suppose as long as it gives the viewer the holiday feel-good vibes, that’s enough. But I digress…

Good Afternoon, Possums and Happy Wednesday snd Happy Hump Day. We made it half way through the week.

It’s been a busy, productive good week; not with scheduling appointments and whatnot but here in my casa. My assistants are kicking ass.

On Monday, Doug cleaned out and rearranged my pantry. Yesterday, Larissa was here. She is wonderful. We talked some and got to know each other. She is from Russia and she’s jewish. Yesterday was her birthday and two of her three kids are flying in this weekend. Her youngest son is in Jerusalem. He says he is safe but she is worried.

We did some cooking together and then watched ‘Come From Away’. She saw my framed picture and I said we could watch it….so we did.

Today, Viola was back. She is also GREAT! After brekky, we rearranged, well she rearranged, my office a little bit. It looks much better. Tomorrow, Viola and I are cooking. Since it is going to be rainy, gray and cold, we are going to make chili.

I have been blessed with very good help/assistants.

This Friday night, I will be attending the 11th Annual Legacy Gala – VIVA LAS VEGAS: A NIGHT IN THE 1960S DESERT OASIS. I sit on the Board of the Irving Schools Foundation and this is our biggest fundraiser of the year.

This will be my first outing in two and a half months. It will be fun but I am a little bit nervous. I really don’t have any 1960’s Desert Oasis/Vegas attire, but at least the wheels on my chair light up.

So, yeah - it has been a good, productive week.

No birthdays on my calendar today.

Good Morning, Possums and Happy Tuesday.

I hope you all having a great start to the week. Mine is going fairly well.

My sleep-doctor appointment was moved to next week. I don’t have to go in either. I can have the appointment online via FaceTime - SWEEEEEEET. However, he’s kind of a ‘snoozer’ in person so I hope I can stay awake on FaceTime.

My financial planner is having her ‘minion’ call me today to give me the info I need to transfer all my money ($3) to her to turn into billions ($7).

I finally got my referral to/for physical therapy. Unfortunately, I cannot start until January. I already have six doctor appointments next year. WTH? It seems my doctors appointments have filled up the time I used to spend working.

And finally, my pantry is completely reorganized and I can reach anything I need.

So, yeah - it was a good productive day!

I think, today we will tackle my office/podcast studio(LOL). I need to do a little rearranging.
