Good Morning, Possums and Happy Tuesday. It feels like it should be Friday, but I don’t want to wish my time or days away. I have too much I want to do.
I need to get my sleep pattern adjusted. Right now, I wake up at 2:30am every single night and it is driving me crazy. Last night (this morning) I was bombarded with prescription drug commercials; in particular, the Ocrevus commercial. For those of you that do not know, Ocrevus is an infusion treatment for people with Multiple Sclerosis taken twice a year.
People are giving the peace sign and turning it around saying they are taking Ocrevus twice a year and they couldn’t be more happy and healthy.
I am beyond happy for these people, God, love’em, I don’t begrudge them a bit of happiness and good health. But at the same time, I would like to pelt them with slime, cold water and, perhaps, little bags of dog poop (that last one is a little harsh so let me give it some more thought).
Why do I feel this way, you ask? Well, I have taken Ocrevus and it didn’t do SQUAT for me - and I have the MRI scans to prove it. So I find that commercial a little offensive. It gives false hope to anyone with MS. It says this may/could/might/will work for you. Nobody with MS hears the may/could/might.
I think, perhaps, I put most of my eggs in the Ocrevus basket. I thought it was going to fix me just like the commercials said…AND I would only have to have the infusion twice a year. How nice that was going to be.
Well, it didn’t fix everything. It didn’t it fix anything. I broke through that DMT (disease modifying therapy). It’s almost like I have SUPER Multiple Sclerosis. It continues to break through all treatments (DMTs). I have even had four rounds of chemotherapy and that only worked to a point.
I’m not mad or angry, I just hate those commercials. It’s just another reminder that there is no cure and not everything works on everybody. And that sucks!
I have broken through four DMTs and I continue to stun, not only not my neurologist, but most of the Neurologists at UT Southwestern. I continue to be on their list of cases to discuss every month - and for the last year, I’ve been number one (my neurologist told me so). While I do not get a trophy or a write up in a national (or international) medical journal for this, I can rest in that fact that I am #1. And for the time being, I can live with that. LOL!
I know - I chased that one down a rabbit hole - but I got out my frustrations and I feel better.
