Good Morning, Possums, from the Celebrity Suite of the Wyndemere Condominiums on Turtle Creek in Dallas, Texas. Today is Friday, June 10. It’s going to be a sunny day in Big D with a high of 99.
Happy Birthday to:
Bryan Huff
It’s finally FriYAY! TGIF and all that stuff. This makes me happy! Yesterday was good. Work in the morning, a quick round of PLEX in the afternoon and the musical Oklahoma last night. if you are going to see this production of Oklahoma, prepare yourself. BE WARNED: This is NOT your parent’s Oklahoma.
This production is a scaled down version - meaning no big, splashy scenery, no big fancy costumes, no glorious orchestra, no big production numbers - none of that. This production has all the characters on stage all of the time (mostly) sitting at tables as well as the orchestra (it’s really just a few musicians).
Some of the action takes place in the dark - you only hear the characters speaking - nothing else - and some of the scenes are shown on the back wall (which also serves as a screen) in black and white and it’s just odd (my opinion).
Act II opens with a modern dance that makes absolutely NO SENSE AT ALL. This performer (a woman) comes out (very talented, I’m sure) in a t-shirt and shorts and “dances” for what seems like an eternity. I could swear I had three birthdays and was fast-approaching a third Christmas before it was all over. I was not entertained. My companion (Sallie Ann Plaxico) and I looked at each other and said in unison, “WTF.”
For me (and me alone), this production lacked…….everything. I wanted the big, splashy scenery, the big fancy costumes, the glorious orchestra and the big production numbers. I like shows (especially classics like Oklahoma) in their original format.
Go see it at your own risk. It may be your cup of tea. But for me, it was a spoon of castor oil.
Just a few meetings for me and lots of work to do today.
Anyhoozle - what’s on your schedule today?
I wish you and everyone around you a SPECTACULAR day. Do everything today with kindness in your heart. The world is full of nice people. If you can’t find one, be one!
Peace, Love and Blessings to you all. -AJ
