I have had a bit of a sleepless night. I have been racking my brain trying to remember who told me about the correlation between multiple sclerosis and mono (mononucleosis). I had a nasty case of mono when I was 18 - so much so that I was hospitalized for a week. But let’s stick a pin in that and we’ll crack that chestnut open another day.
It was someone in the last week and I can’t remember who it was. I blame it on cog-fog. Cog fog, or MS-related brain fog, affects many people living with MS. Losing your train of thought mid-sentence, forgetting why you entered a room, or struggling to remember a friend’s name are all possibilities when cog fog strikes.
I diagnosed myself on the internets. How wonderful is that?
At first, I thought it was just old age. So I immediately went to the internets, pulled up the Google, typed in my symptoms and waited for my absolutely, positively, 100% sure list of diseases I probably had. I was sure that several forms of cancer would be at the top of the list. But no - it came back with a diagnosis of “you are getting old” disease (not really the name). However, it did tell me ways I could strengthen my brain function by buying and taking their “product.” But when I added MS, it came back with “Cog-Fog.” That was easy enough!
I have used the internets, especially the Google, for so much in the last few days…and weeks. And why not? From planning my summer vacation to using the online thesaurus to come with different wording for a course I was writing for work, I used it. To pull up directions to a store and a restaurant - to find out information about a company - to look up the touring schedule of a show and to find the recipe for a southwest turkey meatloaf (like Eatzi’s has - it’s delish, but I digress) - I used it.
I used it to self-diagnose myself. It is so easy to do. The information and the answers to everything (right or wrong) is literally at your fingertips. At that point, I realized I had gone too far. Should the internet be the first place we turn to find answers? Why not ask an actual, well informed, educated human?
When it comes to using the internets, how much is too much?
It’s going to be a sunny day in Big D today with a high of 68 degrees, So far, there are no meetings on my calendar (I didn’t have to use the internets to find that out). Yesterday, I started fundraising for the Dallas MS Walk for a cure. Yes, I realize it is pay day for some. I know, I have, I have no shame, but please help me raise money to find a cure. My goal is $10,000. Check to see if your company will match your donation as well. Support me and make a donation to the Dallas MS Walk by clicking the link below:
I thank you in advance for your love and support. I Love You All.
What’s on your schedule today?
Anyhoozle, I hope you all have a wonderful day and whatever you do today and every day, do it with kindness in your heart. The world is full of kind people. If you can’t find one, be one! And as always:
...wear a mask
...be kind and compassionate to one another
...dance/sing/laugh it out. It might not help but it sure as hell couldn't hurt.
Peace, Love and Blessings to you all. -AJ
