Good Morning, Possums. Happy Friday Eve and Happy Thankful Thursday. It’s almost the weekend - YAY. And….we are a little more than 24 hours away the beginning of THE HALLMARK CHANNEL’S COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS. Yes, tomorrow night at 8pm, 7pm central time, new Holiday (you can say Christmas, but I prefer Holiday - another discussion for another time) movies begin.
THE HOLIDAYS ARE HERE!
You already know the plot. The mom and pop business is saved and people fall in love. Somebody wins the gingerbread house contest and people fall in love. City mouse leaves the big city and falls in love with country mouse all the while saving Christmas and yes, falling in love.
That’s all good and there is nothing wrong with knowing the plot. It’s a holiday feel-good movie. And it ain’t nothing wrong with feeling good these days.
In the last two or three years, the movies have become more inclusive. Representation of African American families, Jewish families, blended families and the gays….just to name a few. BRAVO to Hallmark. But at the same time it is ridiculously sad it took this long for them to be represented.
You can poo-poo Hallmark all you want, but they have stepped up where many have not. Mind you, the plot is still predictable, but I am OK with that.
My only issue is where is the movie about the visually impaired person, or the hearing impaired person or the disabled person or the chronically ill person that has a holiday issue, but the day is saved and they fall in love?
If they do exist already, let me know. Otherwise, I guess we will have to wait another few years for those.
OK - enough about that. I’m sure I offended somebody.
