Today is National Punctuation Day. A period, a comma, a semicolon, a question mark, and an exclamation point are examples of some of the misused and misunderstood punctuation used in writing. I: myself? am a daily’ offender# (which is frightening because I edit things for a living):': " These delightful little markings separate sentences and their elements to clarify meaning. Without them::’ meaning would be lost or up for interpretation?!?
And while I do enjoy a well placed semicolon, I have to mention that today is also the first day of the State Fair of Texas. Big Tex is set to welcome everyone to Big D and to the Fair. The rides, the showrooms, the concerts, the games, the oddly fried foods, the crowds - I can feel the Covid being spread around Fair Park as I type this.
But wait……………….…there’s more. (All of that misused punctuation indicates that this is really BIG). Today - a brand new season of THE GREAT BRITISH BAKING SHOW starts on Netflix. Pru, Paul Hollywood and those two goofy hosts are kicking off one of the most addictive reality shows I have ever seen. How is it that the British can host a reality show that is so nice and pleasant and the contestants not only cheer each other on, but help each other out in a pinch because they want them to be successful? There's no sabbotage, no back-stabbing, no hiding mixers, wooden spoons or name-calling. Are we, in America, doing reality shows wrong? But I digress.
It’s Friday and I have a morning full of meetings and an afternoon full of getting the dressing changed on my port and possibly some new plasma. Stay tuned!
